General Repair

While we specialize in diagnostics, general vehicle repairs are the bread and butter of Hoffman Auto. We work on all makes and models and offer a vast menu of expertise and knowledge; everything from oil changes, brakes and tires to major engine and transmission upgrade. Not only are our technicians ASE certified, but additional training is done in-house, making sure a high-level of consistent service is always provided.

Oil Changes

Every vehicle needs an oil change, and we suggest it happen every 5,000 miles or every 6 months. Our oil changes are vehicle comprehensive and our technicians give your car a very thorough multi-point check over, alerting you of any potential hazards you may experience down the road. Leaking seals, loose steering/suspension components, irregular tire wear and regular maintenance is what we love to do.

Hoffman Auto stocks a variety of oils to meet manufacturer specifications; including synthetic and synthetic blends.

Alignments

We can align your project to any specifications you choose for optimal performance. We have the only alignment machine in Lake Placid!

While driving through the North Country roads and exploring the Adirondacks, a vehicle’s steering and suspension components can easily be knocked out of alignment. We suggest having your vehicle aligned every spring, when you have new tires, or when steering/suspension components are replaced. Alignments will save you money in tires (due to irregular wear) and even fuel mileage! Our state-of-the-art Wheel Alignment machine will get you straightened up in no time.

Tires

Hoffman Auto sells and installs almost most tire brands, call us today and ask 518-523-2888. With our high performance Tire Mounting and Balancing machines, our technicians make sure your tires go on properly and balanced correctly. We have the capability of balancing tires to 1/100th of an ounce while most shops balance to ¼ of an ounce.

Tire Tips

• NEVER set your tire pressures according to what the tire says on the sidewall. Recommended tire pressure can be found in your owner’s manual or in the door jamb of most drivers’ side front doors.

• Check air pressure when tires are cool, meaning they haven’t gotten hot from driving

• Make sure to add recommended tire pressure to all tires, including the spare (spare sometimes requires a higher tire pressure). TIP – Air pressure in a tire goes up in warm weather or down in cold weather 1-2 lbs for every 10 degrees of temperature change.

Diagnostics

With over $150,000 worth of equipment and tools, we have the right machines to diagnose any malfunction indicator light (“check engine,” ABS, airbag, tire pressure, etc), electrical problem or drivability issue you may be experiencing.  We have had customers come to us from their vehicle-specific dealership because they were not able to diagnose what we finally did in the end. Diagnostics is not only about the equipment.

To properly diagnose, you must have experience, knowledge and passion for solving the issue; Hoffman Auto has these qualities.

NYS Inspections

New York State requires annual safety and emissions inspections for most registered vehicles, conducted every 12 months or upon transfer of ownership.

Safety Check: Includes seat belts, brake system (pads, drum, pedal reverse), steering/suspension, tires, lights, horn, mirrors and windshield wipers.

Emissions Check: Includes a OBDII emissions inspection. This test examines the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), also known as the “check engine” light.
